Getting started with Plany Recipes

Install the plugin, set dependable defaults and publish one complete test recipe before moving a larger library.

Updated August 2026

01

Before installing

Create a current backup of the WordPress database and uploads. If the website is already public, test the plugin on a staging copy first.

  • Confirm that WordPress and PHP meet the compatibility requirements shown with your release package.
  • Check whether another plugin already creates Recipe structured data.
  • Make sure pretty permalinks are enabled and the REST API is not blocked in the editor.

02

Install and activate

  1. 1

Open Plugins → Add New Plugin in WordPress.

  2. 2

Upload the Plany Recipes ZIP file or install the Free edition from its official listing.

  3. 3

    Choose Install Now, then Activate.

  4. 4

Open Plany Recipes → Settings and save your preferred recipe-card defaults.

03

Choose site-wide defaults

Set the default serving label, time format, unit style and recipe-card layout before the first publication. Individual recipes can override supported presentation fields later.

  • Select one primary card layout and test it against the active theme.
  • Add the publisher name and a suitable default image where requested.
  • Only enable ratings, favorites or reader accounts when the wider website supports them.

04

Publish a complete test recipe

  1. 1

Create a new recipe and enter title, summary, yield and all times.

  2. 2

Add grouped ingredients and clear preparation steps in the order readers need them.

  3. 3

Add the finished-dish image, optional video, nutrition and equipment information.

  4. 4

Preview the public page on a phone and desktop, then test the print view.

  5. 5

Publish and validate the URL with a structured-data testing tool.
